Zone Overview
Zone 6 is one of the most scenic safari zones in Ranthambore, known for its rugged Aravalli landscape, beautiful valleys, less crowded safari routes, and excellent opportunities for wildlife photography.
Zone 6 is located in the Kundal Range of Ranthambore National Park and is accessed through the Kundal Gate. Introduced to expand tourism beyond the original Singh Dwar zones, Zone 6 has quickly become one of the favourite safari destinations for visitors seeking a quieter and more natural jungle experience. Unlike Zones 1 to 5, Zone 6 offers a distinctly different landscape. The area is dominated by rugged hills, deep valleys, dry deciduous forests, rocky cliffs, seasonal streams, and open plateaus that create one of the most dramatic safari environments inside Ranthambore Tiger Reserve. The zone covers famous forest areas including Kundal, Baher, and Magardah, which together form an ecologically rich habitat supporting a diverse range of wildlife. The relatively lower tourist traffic compared to the core Singh Dwar zones allows visitors to experience the forest in a more peaceful atmosphere while enjoying uninterrupted views of the surrounding landscape. Zone 6 has developed a strong reputation for tiger movement over the years. While no wildlife sighting can ever be guaranteed in a natural forest, this zone regularly records the presence of Bengal Tigers moving through valleys, forest roads, and natural water sources. Leopard sightings are also occasionally reported because of the rocky terrain and elevated cliffs that provide ideal habitat for these elusive predators. Apart from big cats, visitors commonly encounter Sambar Deer, Chital (Spotted Deer), Nilgai, Wild Boar, Hanuman Langurs, Jackals, Striped Hyenas, Jungle Cats, Indian Foxes, Marsh Crocodiles, Indian Monitor Lizards, and numerous reptile species. During winter months, several resident and migratory birds can be observed around seasonal water bodies and forest clearings. For wildlife photographers, Zone 6 offers exceptional opportunities due to its varied topography. Rolling hills, narrow valleys, rocky escarpments, open grasslands, and dense woodland provide constantly changing backgrounds throughout the safari route. Morning safaris often feature mist-covered valleys and soft golden sunlight, while evening safaris showcase dramatic shadows and warm colours across the hills. Nature lovers appreciate Zone 6 not only for wildlife but also for its peaceful environment. Compared with some of the busier tourism zones, safari vehicles here often experience less congestion, allowing visitors to spend more time quietly observing wildlife and enjoying the natural surroundings. Because of its combination of tiger habitat, scenic beauty, geological diversity, and lower tourist density, Zone 6 is considered one of the best choices for repeat visitors, serious wildlife enthusiasts, photographers, and travellers looking for a more immersive jungle safari experience.
