Zone Overview
Zone 7 offers one of the most peaceful safari experiences in Ranthambore National Park, featuring rugged Aravalli landscapes, deep valleys, Chidikho forest, rich biodiversity, and excellent opportunities for wildlife photography away from crowded safari routes.
Zone 7 is part of the Kundal tourism range of Ranthambore National Park and is accessed through the Kundal Gate. It was introduced along with the newer safari zones to distribute tourism across a larger part of the tiger reserve while allowing visitors to explore areas that had previously received very little tourism activity. The zone includes well-known forest regions such as Chidikho, Jamoda, and parts of the Kundal Valley, all of which contribute to one of the most naturally preserved landscapes in the park. Unlike the older tourism zones, Zone 7 offers a quieter safari experience with fewer safari vehicles, making it particularly attractive to wildlife photographers, birdwatchers, and visitors who enjoy peaceful forest exploration. The landscape is characterised by rugged Aravalli hills, dry deciduous forests, rocky escarpments, seasonal streams, grassland patches, and natural wildlife corridors. These diverse habitats support a wide variety of mammals, reptiles, and bird species throughout the year. Zone 7 has become increasingly popular because it provides a genuine wilderness experience. The dense forest cover and interconnected valleys create suitable habitat for Bengal Tigers, Leopards, Sloth Bears, and many prey species. Although tiger movement is regularly recorded in the area, every sighting depends entirely on natural animal behaviour. No safari operator, guide, or booking agency can guarantee a tiger sighting inside Ranthambore National Park. Besides the Royal Bengal Tiger, visitors frequently observe Leopard, Sloth Bear, Sambar Deer, Chital (Spotted Deer), Nilgai (Blue Bull), Wild Boar, Hanuman Langurs, Indian Hare, Jackals, Jungle Cats, Striped Hyenas, Indian Monitor Lizards, Marsh Crocodiles, and numerous reptiles that inhabit the rocky landscape. Birdwatchers appreciate Zone 7 because of its excellent avian diversity. Crested Serpent Eagles, Changeable Hawk Eagles, Indian Peafowl, Grey Hornbills, Kingfishers, Bee-eaters, Owls, Drongos, Woodpeckers, Herons, Painted Storks, Cormorants, and several migratory birds are regularly recorded depending on the season. One of the major attractions of Zone 7 is its natural scenery. The safari route passes through valleys surrounded by ancient hills, thick woodland, dry riverbeds, and open meadows that create spectacular photography opportunities throughout the day. Morning safaris often feature soft golden light and active birdlife, while evening safaris produce dramatic shadows across the rocky terrain. Wildlife photographers particularly enjoy Zone 7 because the relatively lower vehicle density allows more peaceful observation of animal behaviour. The untouched landscape also provides excellent opportunities for landscape photography without excessive tourist traffic. For visitors seeking a calm, authentic, and biodiversity-rich safari rather than only chasing tiger sightings, Zone 7 is considered one of the finest experiences in the Kundal tourism range of Ranthambore National Park.
