Zone 8

Balas – Khera – Kali Bhat • Balas

Ranthambore Zone 8 featuring Balas forest, Aravalli hills, dense jungle, wildlife corridor and scenic safari landscape.

Zone Overview

Zone 8 is one of the most naturally diverse safari zones in Ranthambore National Park, offering beautiful Aravalli landscapes, dense forest, Balas region, rich biodiversity, and a peaceful wildlife safari experience away from the busier tourism routes.

Zone 8 forms an important part of the Kundal tourism range of Ranthambore National Park and is accessed through the Kundal Gate. Covering the scenic Balas, Khera, and Kali Bhat forest region, Zone 8 is known for its untouched wilderness, rolling hills, dry deciduous forests, seasonal streams, and natural wildlife corridors that support a healthy ecosystem throughout the year. Unlike the historic Singh Dwar safari zones, Zone 8 provides visitors with an opportunity to explore a relatively less crowded section of Ranthambore Tiger Reserve. The lower safari vehicle density allows travellers to enjoy a quieter and more immersive jungle experience while observing wildlife in its natural habitat. The terrain of Zone 8 is remarkably diverse. Visitors travel through rugged Aravalli hills, forested valleys, open grasslands, rocky cliffs, bamboo patches, and seasonal water sources that together create ideal conditions for a wide variety of mammals, birds, reptiles, and insects. The Balas region has gradually become recognised for regular wildlife activity and serves as an important movement corridor connecting different parts of the reserve. Bengal Tigers frequently use these forest routes while moving between territories, although sightings always depend on natural animal behaviour and cannot be predicted or guaranteed. Besides the Royal Bengal Tiger, Zone 8 supports Leopard, Sloth Bear, Striped Hyena, Jackal, Jungle Cat, Indian Fox, Sambar Deer, Chital (Spotted Deer), Nilgai, Wild Boar, Hanuman Langurs, Indian Hare, Porcupine, Marsh Crocodile, Indian Monitor Lizard, and numerous reptile species. Birdwatchers will find Zone 8 particularly rewarding due to its rich avifauna. The forests and seasonal water bodies attract Crested Serpent Eagles, Changeable Hawk Eagles, Grey Hornbills, Indian Peafowl, Kingfishers, Bee-eaters, Green Pigeons, Woodpeckers, Herons, Painted Storks, Cormorants, Owls, Drongos, and many migratory birds during the winter season. Wildlife photographers appreciate Zone 8 because of its dramatic landscapes. The combination of forest trails, rocky escarpments, panoramic viewpoints, and open valleys creates constantly changing photographic compositions throughout the safari. Early morning safaris often feature mist-covered valleys, while evening drives produce beautiful golden light across the hills and forest canopy. One of the major advantages of Zone 8 is its peaceful environment. With comparatively fewer safari vehicles than the core tourism zones, visitors often enjoy longer uninterrupted wildlife observations and a stronger connection with the natural surroundings. Whether your interest lies in tiger tracking, birdwatching, wildlife photography, or simply experiencing the untouched beauty of Ranthambore National Park, Zone 8 offers a rewarding safari that showcases the remarkable biodiversity of Rajasthan's most famous tiger reserve.
